Profile: I’ve been in the world of Finance 9 years, and before that had a background in retail operations & management.

My first finance role was with the supermarket chain “Somerfield”. I had a number of placements around the finance department, from performance reporting, to stock reporting and project accountant.

Rather than move to Manchester as part of the buyout by the Co Operative group, I chose to move on. I experienced a role in Lloyds, where I worked on the consolidation of the group budget & forecast plans. After this I worked for BT in their revenue & margin team, managing a finance clerk in delivering the reporting to the management and to the stock market.

I then worked for 3 years in a healthcare business, where I oversaw the planning and reporting team, and delivered a complete overhaul or reporting and budgeting processes. Most recently I’ve moved onto interim projects arising through restructuring and process change, and focussed on achieving efficiency and stabilising the departments.

Profile: My career in accounting started upon commencement of my ICAEW training contract in 1999 with a 2 partner practice in Bristol. I developed a strong general practice background working on accounts preparation, audit, payroll and personal and corporation tax. My work was mainly focused on sole traders, partnerships and owner managed limited companies.

Following qualification and completion of my training contract in 2002 I moved on to work in larger practice and eventually joined KPMG in Bristol in their audit department where I progressed to the role of audit manager. My clients included a mix of listed PLCs as well as well as owner managed business e.g. I worked on the audits of Honda UK Manufacturing, Siemens, Airbus to name a few. This time at a Big 4 practice developed my audit skills which was also combined with client secondments where I headed up finance teams in implementing process change and developing internal controls in the financial reporting process.

During my time with KPMG I also completed a one year secondment to their corporation tax department dealing with corporation tax compliance and enquiry work for a mixture of large international groups and locally established business. During this time I also worked with tax M&A teams in carrying out tax due diligence work on a number of deals.

After spending 12 years in practice I made the move to industry in 2011. I have worked for large multinational corporations in the role of finance and international tax manager as well as financial accountant roles in the healthcare and retail sectors.
